NEW Sonata LF Grand Launching at Grand Hyatt KL

The ALL NEW 7th generation Sonata was launched yesterday at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.  Yours truly was there...

The new Sonata Design language was derived from Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, 1st appeared in Hyundai Genesis.

The theme of the ALL NEW 7th generation Sonata is Human-Machine interface, Modern Premium, PRECISION IN DRIVING.  BACK TO THE ESSENCE:

- cars are for passengers
- driving starts with stability
- the driver's senses should be focused solely on driving.

There were 3 variants.  Elegance B, Elegance and Executive.  Priced at:

Above price is OTR With insurance for private registration.

After quite a few teasers by Hyundai Malaysia, here is the all-new 2015 Hyundai Sonata in its 7th generation.

Hyundai’s D-segment comes here to effectively take on the Kia Optima K5, Honda Accord, Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry, but only within the 2.0-litre range (2.4-litre Sonata has been discontinued).

It's priced to sell at RM153,388 OTR Without insurance.

1st in Malaysia, the Sonata LF COMES WITH 8 YEAR WARRANTY on POWERTRAIN AND DRIVETRAIN (for 1st owner only) ON TOP OF 5 YEARS/300,000KM WARRANTY. Only the latter is transferable.

THIS NEW SONATA LF WAS TUNED IN NURBURGRING TRACK IN GERMANY. Hence, Class Leading Refinement! Test drive to agree with me.

The car has much greater structural rigidity compared with its predecessor as 51% of the body is made of advanced high-strength tensile steel.  It's also roomier as the car is 3.5cm longer, 3cm wider with 505 litres boot space.

COLOUR AVAILABLE : PURE WHITE, Dark Horse (BRONZE BROWN), Remington RED, Platinum SIlver, Polish Metal, AND Phantom BLACK. ALL ARE Metallic Colours, all colours stock available though in LIMITED UNITS.

Performance:
Engine wise, it’s a bit of a bummer to learn that only Hyundai’s MPI range of 2.0-litre ‘Nu’ engines are spread across all Sonata variants here – there’s no GDI (gasoline direct injection) here, which is reserved only for the more ‘atas’ i40 range. Old school six-speed torque converter automatic is used throughout.

Nevertheless, power figures are rated slightly lower than the previous Sonata’s 2.0-litre MPI engine - 162PS then, 154PS now, which according to Hyundai is done in the interest of improved low-end torque and fuel economy, but torque figures remain the same at 194Nm.

Standard across the range is Drive Mode Control system, which lets you choose between three driving modes – normal, sports and active eco. The feature essentially varies the throttle response and Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) to match how you feel like driving the car at any time. The air-conditioning performance is also adjusted to match.

While in the past, Sonata buyers had two engines to choose from, the all-new Sonata is only available with a 2.0-litre engine. If you want a more sophisticated model than the highest-specifications than the RM157,673 2.0-litre Sonata Elegance, Hyundai Malaysia will point you to the i40 sedan, which starts from RM159,603.

Exterior Styling:

Most outstanding here is the sedan’s styling, maturing into what Hyundai calls its Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. Reflected here is the US-spec Sonata’s looks, most noticeable from the strip of LED daytime running lights instead of front foglamps (omitted).

A single-frame ‘3D’ hexagonal grille stands stout in the front, flanked by very stylish headlamps which themselves -have integrated LED daytime running lights. Only the highest-spec Executive variant gets the Bi-Xenon HID headlamps.

At the rear, there are wraparound LED tail lamps, LED rear fog lamps, a very sporty exhaust tip in chrome, and best of all, a Smart Trunk System which if you stand by the boot with your key fob for some three seconds, opens the lid automatically – no foot swiping is needed.

For wheels, the Executive gets 18-inch alloys wrapped in 235/45 R18 rubbers,

In terms of dimensions, the all-new Sonata is itself a longer and wider model overall, gaining 35mm in length and 30mm in width over the previous model. This of course leads to more interior room.

Inside, the all-new Sonata promises much more refinement in terms of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). We're told that Hyundai engineers have gone to great length to ensure this, even creating a “Silent Door Sound” which is a tuned noise for the opening and closing of the doors and windows.

Features & Equipment:
In short, there’s a lot of features to boost the Sonata’s positioning against its Japanese competitors.

The local spec list goes to consist of (for all variants unless stated otherwise):
- Leather upholstery across the range wrapping the seats, steering wheel and gear knob
- Dual-zone air-conditioning
- Reverse camera (Elegance and Executive)
- Premium Android 4.2.2 based Audio Visual Navigation (Elegance and Executive)
- Panoramic Sunroof (Executive)
- Cruise Control
- Active Cornering Lights (Executive)
- Welcome Light Door Handles
- Safe Drive Recorder (Blackbox) (Elegance and Executive)
- Smart Key with Start/Stop Button
- Smart Trunk System

Safety Features:
the local-spec D-segmenter still gets a competitive amount of kits, these are:

Six airbags (Elegance and Executive)
ABS+EBD+BA
Electronic Stability Control
Hill-Start Assist Control
Auto Light Control
Auto Headlamp Levelling (Executive)
Front and Rear Parking Sensors (Elegance and Executive)
